B-N girl named cutest vegetarian kid

She declines to eat them. The Stevenson Elementary School kindergartner also is undeniably cute. Her love for animals, her dietary choice and her adorability fused to make her one of two World's Cutest Vegetarian Kids, as selected last month by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).At home, Caitlin easily avoids meat; none is present. Her mother, Melanie Hany, and Hany's fiancé, Scott Puckett, are longtime vegetarians. But Hany points out that Caitlin's father, Joshua Rosendorn of Chicago, is proud of the girl despite his meat preference -- a fondness for ribs, in particular. Both mother and daughter say Caitlin's choice to become vegetarian is her own.At 6, she has a lifetime of decisions to make, and she could reverse on the meat issue without repercussions, her mother said. "It could be a phase."Crucial, her mother added, is that Caitlin is being taught to make decisions. Both sides of her family -- meat-eaters, minus Hany -- have been supportive of Caitlin and proud of her winning the contest, Hany said.Stops at Burger King through the years gave Caitlin the option of eating hamburgers.

'I married a gay man'

"You have chlamydia," my obstetrician told me as I lay on the examining table, six months pregnant with my fourth child. "You've got to talk to your husband." I was in total disbelief. "This is impossible," I protested. "We're both monogamous." But of course I knew that wasn't really true, and the doctor's words forced me to finally acknowledge what I'd suspected for a long time: My husband was most likely gay.

When I confronted my husband, Chris (not his real name), with my test results that night, he denied he was to blame. "They've got to be wrong, or I must have picked up something in the gym," he insisted. "I haven't done anything wrong." Instead of arguing about how I felt or figuring out how I wanted to handle the larger issue, I focused on what I needed at that moment — to take medicine and get healthy — much as I had throughout our rocky marriage.

Animal activist convicted in Pa. stolen dog case gets probation

HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa. - An animal activist convicted of stealing a dog from a Blair County couple was sentenced to a year's probation and 300 hours of community service.

A judge on Friday also ordered 43-year-old Tammy Grimes to pay court costs and to stop profiting from the sale of merchandise featuring images of the dog.

A jury in December convicted the Tyrone woman of theft and receiving stolen property. Grimes had said she took 19-year-old Jake in September 2006 after the animal had been chained outside for three days without food and water.

The dog was moved to a foster home and later died. The former owners say they never mistreated the dog.

Wellness smells the retail aroma

NEW DELHI: Health has finally become larger than life thanks to rising awareness and growing consciousness among people. This has created a big niche for products that can enable freedom from stress, aroma-treatment and a well-planned balanced diet.

The revolution is unprecedented, not only for the end users but also for businesses that are stepping in to satisfy this burgeoning need of the consumers.

The need has been fuelled by wellness centers that have an important role to play in providing right counseling. They have been providing a holistic experience, helping people chart out a daily food plan, suggesting calorie-nutrient-balanced diet chart and spreading awareness regarding values of common foods and related therapies for stress management.
